A Brighter Smile

Stains and discoloration are two common issues that you will need to contend with in regards to your teeth. Sometimes it is just near impossible to prevent this naturally as several factors can contribute to teeth discoloration. Teeth whitening is a dental procedure that must be done multiple times in order to maintain positive results. Fortunately, this dental procedure is quite affordable and should not be an issue when it comes to our patient's budget.

What Causes Tooth Discoloration?

Several factors can affect the color of one's teeth. Sometimes, these factors are just unavoidable. An outer layer called the enamel coats the teeth, combine this with dentin that is just underneath this coating, and you get the teeth's natural shade or color. A particular factor that affects the color of a person's teeth is their genes. Some individuals have thinner enamel, while others have a thicker coating.

Enamels also have microscopic pores that, over time, can accumulate stains. Another factor that contributes to the color of teeth is the pellicle. The pellicle is an extremely thin coating that forms over the enamel every day; the pellicle is also quite susceptible to stains. Aging will also cause the teeth to be less bright as the enamel layer starts to degrade.

Other than the natural causes pointed out above; there are several external elements that also lend to tooth discoloration and staining. For example, drinking coffee, cola, tea, and red wine can leave stains on the teeth if left unchecked due to their dark color. Smoking can damage not only the lungs but the teeth as well. Finally, not having proper dental hygiene will inevitably cause irreparable damage to your teeth, damage includes staining and discoloration.

Tooth Whitening Procedure

Our clinic offers two main types of teeth whitening procedure: these are the viral and non-viral whitening. The main difference between the two is that viral whitening is recommended for our patients who still have live nerves, while our non-viral whitening is used for patients whose teeth do not have live nerves anymore or those who have undergone root canal treatment.

As for the duration of this procedure, our in-office whitening treatment will take around 3 to 4 sessions to complete. We also offer at-home professionally made teeth whitening dental trays and at-home whitening strips.
